A:A SUPER Patina -EUROPEAN CELTIC BRONZE AGE SPEAR -NR! An exceptional Early Celtic Bronze Spear, dating to approximately 800 BC (the Late Bronze Age). This is one of the finest Bronze Age spears we have seen. It is of leaf-shaped form, with broad mid-rib and hollow shaft for insertion of original wooden pole. Two holes perforate the spear at its base for securing the pole with rivets. The spear has a fantastic Olive-green, marbled patina and has survived in exceptional condition, in spite of its extreme age. It is intact and unrestored. This spear may well have been a ceremonial piece, such is the elegance of its manufacture. The Early Celts believed that dedicating weapons to Gods could bring them fortune in battle. Bronze Age Swords and other Weapons are known to have been dedicated in rivers and lakes in ceremonial fashion. This tradition has passed down to modern Europeans in the form of the legend of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake, who guards the famous warrior s sword, Excalibur. A magnificent weapon.
